What is acquired brain injury?

Acquired brain injury (ABI) is characterized as any type of brain damage that occurs after birth, unrelated to a congenital issue. ABI includes all types of traumatic brain injury but may also occur as a result of non-violent causes, e.g. stroke, aneurysm, infection, drug use, or lack of oxygen.
