Dysarthria is characterized by speech that is slurred, slow, and difficult to produce. It may affect pitch, loudness, rhythm, and voice qualities of their speech. It may be caused by problems with the muscles of the mouth, occur as a developmental disability or be a sign of a neuromuscular disorder.
