What is hemophilia A?

Hemophilia A is a genetic (hereditary) bleeding disorder caused by a lack of blood clotting factor VIII. The blood cannot clot properly without the factor VIII, therefore patients are at a higher risk for bleeding. Symptoms include prolonged bleeding, pain in joints, and bruising.
